Education

A few words from Wojciech Rzehak:

The Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Krakow has the potential to become a special educational centre on our city map, a multifaceted and multidirectional centre, a fully inclusive place where different age, social and professional groups can be drawn into cultural life. The resulting synergy would make it possible to learn from each other's differences in age, work and life experience, race, ethnicity, disability, gender, identity or religion. A theatre understood in this way would not only become a place for ‘staging plays, offering performances’, a place for insightful commentary on reality, or a mirror which reflects the contemporary world, but also a space for meetings of children, youth, adults and seniors. Conversations aimed at exchanging thoughts, impressions, experiences and knowledge would become the trademark of our theatre in its capacity as an educational space.

CONTINUED PROJECTS

Education – plans for 2024/2025

Educational workshops accompanying a performance - addressed mainly to secondary schools, but also open to visits by younger participants (primary schools) and seniors (e.g. Third Age Jagiellonian University). The workshops provide educational commentary on performances, e.g. Szymborska. Full Stops, Commas, Cigarettes; 1989; The Wedding; Forefathers' Eve; Ladies and Gentlemen, Wyspiański Is Dying; Late Company; Cracks of Existence; The Quack, Romeo and Juliet; A Christmas Carol. In most cases, the performance is followed by a meeting of the participants with the actors (Szymborska. Full Stops, Commas, Cigarettes; Late Company; The Quack, Romeo and Juliet; Cracks of Existence).

Another workshop-based alternative is the Post-Performance Discussion, in which the audience can engage in a meeting with the actors after the show and share their impressions. This option does not include a workshop introducing the issues raised by the performance.

- Polish for Two Voices (P42V), a continuation of meetings run jointly with Dariusz Martynowicz, Teacher of the Year 2021. During the 2.5-hour classes on the MOS stage, we will discuss the most important dramatic works from the compulsory reading list for secondary school students. The aim of P42V is not only to help students prepare for their ‘matura’ final exam in May 2025, but also to arouse their interest in literature and demonstrate that it is possible to talk about it in an engaging, unconventional way.

PLEASE NOTE: The first meeting of the ‘Polish for Two Voices’ series will take place on 12 October 2024, of course in MOS at 12 Rajska St. Come and join us at 10a.m.

- Matura exam with ‘Słowak’, i.e. the Słowacki Theatre is taking your final exam with you, and therefore - for the second time - we'll have the great culmination of 'Polish for Two Voices'.  Together with Dariusz Martynowicz, we’ll host a 6-hour-long pre-exam revision on the Grand Stage. Last year's event was hugely popular, and the feedback we received proved the effectiveness of the event.
