Paradise
‘The life and death of my father Stanisław Wyspiański – the last god of poetry, told in several stations’.
Narrative exhibition combined with theatre workshop and tour.
A proposal for secondary school students.
A subjective story about a father told by his adopted son Teodor. His mother Teofila Pytko – Stanisław Wyspiański's future wife – had given birth to him a few years before their marriage. Teodor discovered it after his father's death and never came to terms with it. Fascinated by his father-Demiurge, he tries at all costs to recreate those moments from the past which best describe the story of his father's genius. He considers himself his first child and his anointed.
‘Archive of theatrical stories PARADISE’ constitutes a sort of a warehouse of seemingly scattered objects – wrappings, cases giving the impression of devices that keep some mysterious internal mechanical entities alive, mini display cabinets, cages, capsules and projection machines that show family life scenes. Through peepholes and screens, we take a peek into this intimacy. We watch images filtered through Teodor's memory and sensibility.
Teodor Wyspiański's Paradise was created on the third floor, in a theatre space originally intended for people from the lower strata of society – students, vendors, servants. On this floor, tickets were the cheapest, costing the equivalent of a loaf of bread, and were intended to bring everyone into contact with art. We will enter the world of Teodor's imagination and feelings through a separate staircase – the one for the poor.
The exhibition and the workshop are immersed in the context of that era, bringing the events of that time to life and allowing ample space for the empathy and imagination of the participants.
