Event description

With each new text, Dorota Masłowska confirms her status of one of the finest diagnosticians of contemporary Polish reality. But can people raised in other cultural contexts also find themselves in the worlds she describes? It turns out they can! The Chinese director and actor Wei Jia, who brings Między nami dobrze jest / No Matter How Hard We Tried to the Boska Komedia / Divine Comedy, has read this tragicomic text through the filter of her own experiences that raise questions about family relationships and their fragility in the face of contemporary crises.

No Matter How Hard We Tried is, above all, a play about a particular moment when three generations of women inhabiting the same small flat painfully realise that there is no longer any language that would allow them to communicate. Experiences become untranslatable, relationships wane, and a world that long seemed familiar becomes alien and hostile. In this production, audiences will find Masłowska’s absurd humour as well as her unique staging style that will offer them a new perspective on the stories and situations that inhabit our collective imagination.
